Mount Elgon National Park straddles the Uganda-Kenya border and features Mount Elgon, an extinct volcano standing at 4,321 meters above sea level.
Supporting local communities is encouraged by hiring certified guides and porters. These guides have received training in natural and cultural histories, first aid, and communication. Porters assist by carrying gear, preparing meals, and setting up camp. For added safety, a park ranger escort is mandatory when visiting the calderas or ascending the peaks.
Mount Elgon National Park is ideal for extended hikes, offering stunning waterfalls, enormous caves, scenic peaks and gorges, and hot springs that bubble up at 48°C.
Simple accommodations are available within the park at the Kapkwata Rest House and the Forest Exploration Centre at Kapkwai.
Rafiki Eco-Safaris offers great travels and tours to the wilderness. We cater for the inbound traveler and groups, planning their Safari to the Pearl of Africa.
