Hotsprings in Semuliki National Park

One of the park’s most famous attractions is the bubbling hot springs, formed 14 million years ago by subterranean forces shaping the Rift Valley. These hot springs are a significant natural wonder and a major draw for visitors. The springs are considered sacred by the local Bamaga clan, who have a legendary tale associated with them and perform annual rituals at the site. The springs are named as male and female, symbolizing the ancestors who disappeared at their locations.

Lets Hear By People

Community and Cultural Encounters

The park is surrounded by four ethnic groups: the Bwamba farmers who live along the base of the Rwenzori Mountains, the Bakonjo who cultivate the mountain slopes, the Batuku cattle keepers who inhabit the open plains, and the Batwa pygmies, traditionally hunter-gatherers, who live on the forest’s edge. Visitors can engage with these communities through cultural encounters, including walks to the Batwa community, traditional dances, and storytelling sessions. These experiences provide a unique insight into the lives and traditions of the people living near the park.

Nature walks in Semuliki offer visitors the opportunity to explore the park’s diverse ecosystems, where you might encounter various primates, as well as bird species like Honeyguides, Palm-nut Vultures, and different Hornbills. The walks are a serene way to experience the natural beauty and tranquility of this tropical forest.
